Abstract

|
The prevalence of gastrointestinal symptoms in patients with diabetes mellitus is higher than in the non-diabetic population. Upper gastrointestinal symptoms appear to be more common in type 2 diabetic patients. Gastrointestinal symptoms are significantly associated with the presence of other diabetic complications, particularly autonomic and peripheral neuropathy. Poor glycemic control is probably an important contributory factor; therefore, so strict blood glucose control should precede other treatments.
